This is an exciting year!
The "Ocean in Motion" series of oil paintings is underway. This series brings back memories of my first oil painting of a humpback whale back in the early 1980's. read more
I PAINT THE WORLD WITH Passion My art is a reflection of this passion: capturing the vibrancy of color, beautiful sea life, and constant movement above and beneath the ocean.
Painting is a process for me. An idea develops and forms. Then I work on a plan to execute the vision. Immersed while painting, the canvas comes to life. Imagine yourself in that world, slow down, and enjoy the beauty.
Technical challenges will always occur when trying to express a vision. Because one is not copying a picture or making a portrait likeness, challenges emerge: under painting, will it require glazing, how will the light fall, what angles express movement the best, what colors portray the mood and character, and when a rough plan and drawing are in place...paint, paint, paint. There is no substitute for painting and letting the image emerge and develop.
In short: I invite you to step into my world of art for a few minutes and feel and experience.
Read MoreI just love painting the ocean and everything in it, as well as palm trees, waves, and sunsets. Who doesn't love to watch whales and dolphins at play or see a lighthouse with crashing waves ?
Both oils and acrylic paints can create great paintings. I prefer acrylic paints for prints because the sheen of oils can cause some issues when photographing or scanning the image. For some subtle transitions and deep rich colors I prefer oils. What is it they say? "Patience is a virtue." and when using oil paints, one must be patient.
